Heart to heart for the Great Barrier Reef
Every year the Great Barrier Reef Festival is held over four days in August. It's on right now and perhaps you should consider attending in 2023?
Every year the Cruise Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef Festival is held over four days in August with events incorporating art, conservation, and community engagement. The aim is to foster an emotional attachment to Australia’s greatest natural asset.
This year 11 of Australia’s most passionate advocates for the Great Barrier Reef, with 129 years combined work experience, gathered on August 4th to cruise to Hardy Reef off the coast of Airlie Beach to launch the 2022 Cruise Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef Festival.
Known as Master Reef Guides, the 11 highly trained guides use their expertise to deliver an immersive, story-telling experience. Master Reef Guide program co-founder, Fiona Merida said each guest would gain a greater appreciation of the beauty of the reef and a deeper understanding of the difference each of us can make to its survival.
“Ultimately, we want guests to leave as ambassadors for Australia’s greatest natural treasure, spreading these messages from their hearts to yours.”
The Master Reef Guides program was launched in 2019 by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. 82 Master Reef Guides from tourism operators have since graduated to host the program.
This year tickets cost $220 per adult including lunch and all activities excluding scuba diving.
