Berlin-based filmmaker Christian Wehrle's 90-minute documentary takes you deep into a world few have ever seen. Shot over three years across seven countries, this beautifully-shot film features underwater environments like World War II wrecks at at Malin's Head in Ireland - often described as the 'Truk Lagoon of Europe', with deep wrecks as deep as 300 feet - flooded mines, deep caves, and the amazing Molnár János Thermal Cave in Budapest.

Rather than marine life, the film focuses on atmosphere, history and access - places most divers will never experience firsthand. The documentary highlights some remote dive sites with beautiful underwater photography, and reveals some rare environments in a way that makes the viewer feel they are diving themselves.

"I've always been drawn to places that feel just out of reach - not because they are extreme, but because they require effort, planning and commitment to get there," says Wehrle. "Over time, I realised many of these underwater environments are simply not accessible to most people. The film became a way of sharing those places and the experience of being there."
As divers will appreciate, there were plenty of moments during filming that Wehrle says he'll remember always. "One that stands out was finally reaching Cape Clear in the Red Sea after multiple failed attempts due to current and conditions. When we eventually got there, the dive itself became a challenge again - strong currents, drifting decompression, and a constant reminder that you're operating on the edge of what's realistically manageable.
"Another moment was a deep dive at Malin Head where I lost diluent at around 300 feet due to a constant flow issue. It wasn't dramatic in the moment, but it was a clear reminder of how quickly your focus has to shift from filming, back to the dive."

Hidden Worlds is quiet, in a way that divers will know - it's the hush of a world that's deep under our everyday space. "I hope Dive Pacific readers will enjoy the documentary because it shows a side of diving that goes beyond the usual imagery," explains Wehrle. "It's not about perfect conditions or easy access; it's about the reality behind these dives - planning, limitations, logistics, and the environments themselves.
"For divers, especially those interested in exploration, wrecks, caves or technical diving, it offers a perspective that is both visual and experiential - showing not just what these places look like, but what it takes to be there."
The film is currently available on Amazon Prime in Australia, and will soon be released on Google Play Movies & TV. New Zealanders can watch the film by clicking on the link HERE, then type in DIVEPACIFIC33 to access the discount.
